Privacy policy

Doorprints is a free, open-source notebook for house-hunting in India: a website, an Android app and an iPhone app. It is made by Sriram (Sriram-Codes-SW). This page says, in plain words, what Doorprints keeps, where it keeps it, and how you remove it.

The short version

Doorprints has no account and no server of ours. We never receive your houses, notes, photos or location.
Your data stays on your device. You can also choose to keep it on a server of your own, or back it up to your own Google Drive, encrypted on your device first.
No advertising. No analytics or tracking that is shared with anyone. Nothing is sold.

What Doorprints keeps, and where

On your device. The houses you add, with their address and map position, ratings, notes, photos, viewings, brokers and their contact details, and your settings. On the website they are kept in your browser; on the phones, in the app's own storage. Hunt mode's location stays on your phone.
On a server of your own (optional). If you connect a Doorprints server, your data is also kept there. That server is run by you or by someone you choose, not by us.
In your own Google Drive (optional). If you connect Google Drive, Doorprints keeps its backups, sync files and photos in a folder named Doorprints in your Drive. Every file is encrypted on your device before it is uploaded, with keys made on your devices and a recovery key that only you hold. Google does not have these keys and cannot read the contents; neither can we. If you lose every device and your recovery key, nobody can open these backups again.

Google Drive backup is being added to Doorprints now; this page already says how it works.

What the Google permission is used for

Doorprints asks Google for one permission only, drive.file: access to the files Doorprints itself creates in your Drive, and to no other file. It is used to:

create the Doorprints folder, and upload, read, update and delete the encrypted backups, sync files and photos in it, so that your devices stay in step and you can Import a backup on a new device;
show which Google account is connected (its email address, read from Drive, kept on your device only).

Doorprints does not ask for your contacts, your calendar, your other files or your Google profile. The data received from Google is used only to give you these features. It is not used for advertising, it is not sold, and it is not used to develop, improve or train artificial-intelligence or machine-learning models. No person reads it.

Doorprints' use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

What Google can still see: the names, sizes and times of the files, how many there are, who a file is shared with, and your Google account. The file names carry no house data.

Other services the app reaches

The map pictures come from OpenFreeMap, which sees the map area you look at and your IP address.
On the website, Fill address from map and finding an area on the map ask OpenStreetMap's address service (Nominatim), only when you tap them. On the phones, the phone's own address finder is used (Google's on Android, Apple's on iPhone).
The AI features are off unless you turn them on. Then your question and the matching house notes go to the AI provider you chose (its name is shown where you set it), through your server or with a key of your own; contact names and phone numbers are left out.
The website is served by Firebase Hosting (Google), which, like any web host, sees the requests your browser makes to it.

All of these connections are encrypted (HTTPS).

Deleting your data from Google Drive

In the app, in Settings > Google Drive, there are three levels. Each asks you to confirm and says what goes and what stays. Files are deleted for good, not moved to Drive's bin.

Delete this backup removes one backup file. You confirm in a dialog.
Delete all backups removes every backup file; your devices keep syncing. You confirm in a dialog and then with your phone's own screen lock.
Delete everything Doorprints keeps in my Google Drive removes the whole Doorprints folder: backups, sync files, photos and keys, so your recovery key stops working. You tick a box, wait five seconds and confirm with your phone's screen lock.

On the website, the second and third levels need a passkey that protects the website's key; without one, the website asks you to use Doorprints on your phone. The houses on your devices stay in every case.

Disconnect Google Drive stops one device from syncing and deletes nothing. Disconnect on all devices removes Doorprints' access to your Google account; your files stay in your Drive. You can also remove the access yourself at any time in your Google Account: myaccount.google.com > Security > Your connections to third-party apps & services.

To remove everything: delete the data from Drive, remove the access, then use Remove all data in the app on each device. Doorprints never received your data, so there is no request to send to anyone.

How long data is kept

On your device and on your own server, until you delete it. In Google Drive, until you delete it, except old backups: Doorprints keeps 7 daily, 4 weekly and 6 monthly backups and moves older ones to Drive's bin, which Google empties after 30 days. Google removes deleted files from its own systems on its own schedule. Copies you made with Save a copy, and what other people already imported from something you shared, stay where they are.

A photo you delete. Deleting a photo, or a house with photos, drops it from your device at once. Its encrypted copy stays in your own Google Drive for at least 30 days, so that Recently deleted can bring the photo back. Delete everything Doorprints keeps in my Google Drive removes it at once, and then nothing can be brought back.

Sharing

Doorprints shares nothing on its own. If you share houses with someone, they get only what you choose; contact details only if you tick them.

Children

Doorprints is made for adults looking for a home. It is not meant for children, and it collects no one's data.

Changes to this policy

This policy changes when Doorprints changes what it keeps, where it sends data, or what it asks Google for. The date at the top shows the last change, and every earlier version is in the project's public history.
